Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about QR codes, dynamic tracking, or printing guidelines? Find quick answers here.
What are QR codes and how do they work?
Quick Response (QR) codes are two-dimensional matrix barcodes that store binary payloads. When a mobile device scans the pattern, its camera hardware decodes the grid blocks into text, URLs, contacts, or instructions, triggering immediate actions like opening websites or connecting to local Wi-Fi networks.
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
Static QR codes embed content directly into the code modules, making it permanent and unchangeable. Dynamic QR codes embed a short redirect URL. When scanned, users route through our server which tracks analytics and redirects them to the target destination. This allows you to update the target link at any time without changing the printed code.
Are there any limits on scan volumes?
Static QR codes have absolutely zero scan limits and will work forever. Dynamic QR codes generated on our free tier also enjoy unlimited scans, backed by our high-performance global edge routing infrastructure.
Can I track location data of who scans my codes?
Yes, using dynamic QR codes. Our analytics platform securely logs the scanning device's operating system, time of scan, and estimated location (country and city) resolved via anonymous IP lookup. We do not store or capture any personally identifying information of the scanning end-user.
Can I customize the shape and colors of the QR code?
Yes, our workshop generator lets you customize the foreground block color and the background canvas. Ensure you maintain a strong contrast ratio (e.g., dark colors on a light background) so cameras can easily read the code.
How do I redirect a printed QR code to a new URL?
To redirect a printed code, it must have been created as a Dynamic QR code. Log into your dashboard, locate the specific code under your campaigns list, click 'Edit Destination', enter your new URL, and save. The redirect will update instantly worldwide with no reprint required.
